She handed me her phone and said,
“Pick a song for the drive.”
I opened her playlist.

Then I noticed one very romantic song.
I looked at her.
“Interesting choice.”
She smiled.
“What’s interesting about it?”
“Nothing. I’m just wondering why you have this one.”
She laughed.
“Maybe I like the lyrics.”
I nodded.
“Good answer.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“What was the wrong answer?”
I smiled.
“That you were hoping someone would notice.”
She turned down the radio.
“And if I was?”
I looked at her.
“Then I suppose I should pay attention.”
She laughed.
“You're very confident tonight.”
“You gave me your playlist. That feels like classified information.”
She scrolled through the songs.
“There's another one you haven't heard.”
“Should I be concerned?”
“Only if you understand the lyrics.”
She played it.
I listened for a few seconds.
Then I looked at her.
“Okay… that's definitely not a random song.”
She smiled.
“I never said it was.”
I reached for the volume.
“Want me to change it?”
She shook her head.
“No. I want to see if you're brave enough to listen to the whole thing.”
I smiled.
“I think I've just discovered why you gave me control of the playlist.”
She grinned.
“Finally. You're catching up.”
