She caught me staring at her and smiled.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
I said,
“I’m trying to figure something out.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“What?”
I looked at her and said,
“How someone can look this innocent while clearly knowing exactly what she’s doing.”
She laughed.
“And what exactly am I doing?”
I smiled.
“That’s what I’m trying to figure out.”
She leaned back and said,
“Maybe you should stop staring.”
I nodded.
“I probably should.”
She waited.
“So why haven't you?”
I shrugged.
“Because every time I look away, I miss something interesting.”
She smiled and asked,
“Something interesting… or someone?”
I said,
“Definitely someone.”
She tried to hide her smile.
“You're getting dangerously confident tonight.”
I replied,
“I'm only confident because you're still smiling.”
She looked at me for a moment and said,
“Maybe I like watching you try to figure me out.”
I smiled.
“Then I guess I'll need more time.”
She picked up her coffee and quietly replied,
“Good. I wasn't planning on making it easy.”
