Tyrion sat down for dinner and noticed everyone was unusually quiet.
He looked around the table.
“Should I be worried?”
Cersei calmly poured herself some wine.
“Why would you ask that?”
Tyrion pointed at the silence.
“Because when everyone stops talking around here, someone usually ends up regretting dinner.”
Jaime looked at Cersei.
“She’s been quiet for ten minutes.”
Tyrion froze.
“Ten minutes?”
Cersei smiled.
“You count my silence now?”
Tyrion slowly reached for his wine.
“I count everything that might keep me alive.”
Jaime laughed.
Cersei gave him a look.
“Something amusing?”
Jaime immediately looked at his plate.
“No.”
Tyrion whispered,
“That was the correct answer.”
Cersei looked at Tyrion.
“You seem unusually cautious tonight.”
“Experience.”
“Experience with what?”
“Family dinners.”
She smiled.
“And what have family dinners taught you?”
Tyrion lifted his goblet.
“Never finish your wine before everyone else starts arguing.”
Jaime looked confused.
“Why?”
Tyrion smiled.
“Because you may need another glass before dessert.”
Cersei finally laughed.
Tyrion leaned back.
“There. Much better.”
Jaime asked,
“What changed?”
Tyrion took a sip.
“The most dangerous person at the table started laughing instead of planning.”
