She pulled me aside and whispered,
“Promise you won't tell anyone.”
I nodded.
“Your secret is safe with me.”
She smiled.
“Good.”
Then she leaned closer and said,
“Because I probably shouldn't be doing this.”
I looked around.
“Doing what?”
She smiled.
“Standing this close to you.”
I laughed.
“That's your secret?”
She shook her head.
“No.”
“Then what is?”
She lowered her voice.
“I'm starting to like keeping you to myself.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“That sounds less like a secret and more like a warning.”
She smiled.
“Maybe it's both.”
“And what exactly am I supposed to do with that information?”
She thought for a second.
“Keep it between us.”
“Why?”
“Because I don't want everyone knowing how much I enjoy your company.”
I smiled.
“That's actually pretty sweet.”
She shook her head.
“Don't get sentimental.”
“Too late.”
She laughed.
“Fine. One more secret.”
“I'm listening.”
She leaned closer again.
“I was hoping you'd ask me to keep yours too.”
I smiled.
“What secret?”
She looked at me.
“That you've been trying not to smile this whole time.”
I laughed.
“Caught me.”
She smiled.
“Good. Now it's our secret.”
