She caught me smiling at my phone.
“What's so funny?”
I quickly locked the screen.
“Nothing.”
She looked suspicious.
“Nothing doesn't make you smile like that.”
I laughed.
“It was just a message.”
“From who?”
I hesitated.
She smiled.
“That hesitation was interesting.”
I put my phone away.
“Are you jealous?”
She shook her head.
“I'm curious.”
“About what?”
She leaned closer.
“What could possibly make you smile that much?”
I looked at her.
“Do you really want to know?”
She nodded.
“Absolutely.”
I unlocked my phone.
She watched the screen carefully.
“It's you.”
She blinked.
“What?”
I showed her the screen.
It was an old photo of her I'd saved.
She smiled.
“You were hiding that?”
“I knew you'd make fun of me.”
She shook her head.
“I wouldn't make fun of you.”
“Really?”
“Maybe a little.”
I laughed.
“There it is.”
She took the phone from my hand.
“I'm keeping this.”
“The phone?”
“The picture.”
She smiled.
“I want to know what you were thinking when you saved it.”
I smiled.
“You really want to know?”
She nodded.
“Then you're going to have to keep asking.”
